REAL PUB
An old fashioned, traditional style, family owned local pub. We are situated in the middle of town, just 200m from Paignton sea front. A warm welcome awaits everyone and we’re dog friendly too. For everyone’s enjoyment we do have a few rules for dog owners to abide by.

Shuttereye02/06/2024A Very Pleasant Experience Right from the booking to being here I felt in good hands. They tend to have a policy of taking bookings by the hour but, if you explain your situation, they will accommodate you as best they can. In my case, I was coming by rail which would arrive on the hour so, due to my disability, it would take me some time to reach the bar. I was also offered a window seat (yes, with my quirky humour, I did wonder whether the bar was in the shape of an aircraft!). Upon arrival, I approached the bar, and I was shown to my (yes) window table (all to myself). The signs were already good, as every table was taken inside and almost also outside. I placed my order at the bar, being served by a very polite and helpful barmaid and, despite being busy, offered to take my drink to my table. After a few minutes, I saw the chef heading my way with a large plate (I should have read the large print with it saying a 10 oz Gammon!) and which also contained a decent amount of proper chunky chips, a bowl of garden peas and both a fried egg and pineapple as standard. I was also asked if I wanted any sauces and a short time later the same friendly and efficient barmaid arrived with 6 (!) sachets of HP. The meal was hot and cooked to perfection. Dessert of piping hot caramel apple pie and, in my case, two scoops of ice cream. Thank goodness I had the ice cream to cool down the pie! One downside, as I have a disability, was getting to the toilets as I had to negotiate two flights of stairs. I found the toilets to be clean. I would highly recommend this establishment and I would also recommend booking in advance.
anne31/05/2024Lovely pub in Paignton Devon. Fab food lovely selection of drinks, cider, ales, beers. Real ale, real food in a real pub. Fantastic music. We are down for the Raf airshow.
Al H22/05/2024Good old Henry Warm and friendly atmosphere. Well kept. Good and fresh lager. Would be 5*. if not for being a little light on the ham in the meal.
IntrepidTara06/05/2024Great evening The vegetarian lasagne with garlic bread was super tasty and a nice big portion, we stayed for beers afterwards, music was good, atmosphere was good and staff very friendly. We had a booth booked and had our dog with us but were forced to swap our booth for a different one which was less private and therefore more distractions for our dog by some local weirdo who refused to move because he said he always has that seat (my name was clearly on my table!) Staff were apologetic, not their fault but not the best start to the evening, just a heads up for others.

lottie28/02/2024Devine Sunday roast! Came in with my partner and little one for some food and once again Henry’s bar did not disappoint. Warm welcome and quick service, colouring set offered to my daughter which was really lovely not having to ask. Beer tasted lovely and fresh. I ordered the Sunday roast and asked for a side plate so that my daughter and I could share - this was not a problem at all. The food came out and every bite was just delicious - roasties gorgeous and crisp and homemade Yorkshire puds! The meat was so tender! My partner had the fish which he said was the best he’d had in a long time (big compliment from a fish and chips enthusiast!) Think we might have to return next Sunday! Thanks so much! Keep up the good work!
